Official Tourist Maps of Moscow in PDF – Free Download

If you want to bring a printed tourist map of Moscow, there are two official PDF downloads that are genuinely worth printing: the official tourist map published by the Moscow City Tourism Committee (available in four languages, regularly updated) and the Moscow Metro map in English. In this article I share the direct link to each one and, since Russian official websites are often restricted or slow from outside Russia, I’ve also uploaded them to my Google Drive so you can download them without a VPN.

At the end of the article you’ll also find a historical collection of themed Moscow tourist maps from 2017 that are no longer officially updated but are still perfectly useful for walking routes through the city centre.

1. Official tourist map of Moscow (4 languages)

This is the current official tourist map published by the Moscow City Tourism Committee. It’s designed to be printed on A3 and folded into a classic pocket map. It covers the entire central area of the city and marks all the main points of interest (the Kremlin, Red Square, GUM, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Bolshoi Theatre, Zaryadye Park, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum, etc.) with clear legends and a schematic metro map on the reverse. The Tourism Committee publishes it and updates it whenever there are relevant changes to the city.

It’s available in four languages: English, Chinese, Arabic, and Russian. For English-speaking travellers, the English version is obviously the most practical choice — all place names are given in Latin script, which is essential for finding your way around the streets.

The issue is that the official download page (mos.ru) is restricted from outside Russia: depending on your country and internet provider, it may not load at all, load very slowly, or return an error without a VPN. That’s why I’ve also uploaded it to my Google Drive, where you can download it without any workarounds.

2. Moscow Metro map in English

This is the second essential PDF. It’s published by the Moscow City Tourism Committee and can be downloaded directly from the official tourism portal discover.moscow. It’s a schematic map of the metro proper, plus the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD), with all station names transliterated into the Latin alphabet.

Printing it out and carrying it with you is still well worth it, especially if you don’t want to rely on your phone every time you need to take the metro or when you go down to stations with no signal. Unlike the tourist map from the previous section, the discover.moscow portal is accessible from outside Russia without a VPN. Even so, I’ve also included it in my Drive folder in case it’s more convenient to have everything in one place:

3. Classic Moscow tourist maps collection (2017)

Between 2012 and 2018, the former Moscow City Tourism and Hospitality Committee published a series of themed tourist maps in PDF: walking routes through different neighbourhoods, maps for children, literary itineraries, theatre trails, excursions through the centre… Those maps are no longer officially updated, but I’ve kept them in my Google Drive because the underlying cartography is still perfectly valid (Moscow’s historic centre hasn’t changed), the walking routes can be followed just as they are, and the design quality is far superior to anything currently available.

In the folder you’ll find the following 9 maps (approximate file size in brackets):

• Moscow Tourist City Map Big (64 MB) — the general tourist map in high resolution, with all the central attractions and a fold-out Kremlin plan, plus a mini Russian-English dictionary for tourists.
• Moscow Tourist City Map (10 MB) — the lighter version of the same map, easier to print if you don’t need maximum detail.
• The Heart of Moscow (3 MB) — a map of the very heart of the city (Red Square and surroundings), with the main museums, churches, theatres, and a schematic metro plan.
• Arbat (4.5 MB) — a 3 km walking route (about 1.5 hours) through the Arbat neighbourhood, Moscow’s most famous pedestrian street. I’d recommend pairing it with my guide to Arbat Street in Moscow.
• Literary Boulevards (3 MB) — a 4.4 km itinerary (about 2.5 hours) along Moscow’s literary boulevards, the circular route that rings the historic centre, with monuments to Russian writers.
• Moscow Theatres (3 MB) — a 4.6 km walking route (about 2 hours) through Moscow’s main theatres. A great complement if you’re going to the Bolshoi and want to know how to buy tickets as a foreigner.
• Yakimanka (5 MB) — a tour through the historic Yakimanka neighbourhood, just south of the Kremlin. It’s a less touristy area, full of 17th-century churches and converted industrial architecture (Krasny Oktyabr, Garage).
• Excursions (33 MB) — several walking itineraries through central Moscow combining the main tourist attractions into half-day or full-day routes.
• Moscow for Children (25 MB) — Moscow attractions designed for the little ones: parks, zoos, circuses, children’s museums, family-friendly restaurants. You can pair it with the guide: travelling to Moscow with children.
