Can I apply for a new eVisa right after leaving Russia with an eVisa, or can I do it while still in Russia? What should I do if there’s a delay in responding to my application? What if I’m asked to correct some incorrect information? Which card can I use to pay the consular fee? In this article, I answer these and many other questions based on the most frequently asked questions by applicants for the Russian electronic visa.
Below you can check the most frequently asked questions by electronic visa applicants through the application platform, along with others I consider of interest and will add to the list.
1. Processing the Electronic Visa
I can’t upload a correct photo; the system won’t accept the one I took.
Carefully review the photo recommendations and requirements (available in the application form). If your application has been returned to change the photo, contact the Russian visa center:
I’m getting an error when entering my passport number. What should I do?
Email [email protected] attaching a photo of your passport.
I don’t have information about my parents. What should I put in the form?
If you don’t have information about your parents, write “no information available” in the corresponding fields.
I’m traveling with a minor included in my passport, do they need a visa? How do I apply?
Yes, each minor needs their own electronic visa, even if they are listed in your passport. An individual application must be completed for each child.
Is it mandatory to provide an email address and phone number?
Yes. You will receive all notifications about your application via email. They will also be displayed in your personal account on the official website and in the mobile app. The phone number may be used to contact you in case of an emergency related to your entry, exit, or stay in Russia.
I’ve received an email asking me to correct my application. What should I do?
If an error is detected in your application, it will be suspended and returned with comments indicating which fields need correction. This return is made within 2 calendar days from the date you submitted the application. You can see the updated status in your personal account. Once you correct and resubmit it, a new processing period of 4 calendar days will begin.
I made a mistake with the birth date and the eVisa has already been issued. Can I correct it?
No. Once the electronic visa is issued, it cannot be modified. You will need to submit a new application.
2. Paying for the Electronic Visa
I’ve filled out the application, but the payment hasn’t been processed. How do I know if I’ve paid?
Wait for the payment confirmation. Processing can take between 20 and 45 minutes.
Which cards can I use to pay the consular fee?
Due to sanctions, you can only pay with cards issued by banks from foreign countries. Russian cards are not accepted. Payment is made with international cards like Visa or MasterCard.
The receipt is in dirhams or yuan. Can I pay in euros or another local currency?
Yes. Even if the amount is in dirhams or yuan, you can pay with a card in any foreign currency. The bank will automatically make the conversion (a currency exchange fee may apply).
Can I pay via bank transfer or PayPal?
No. Currently, payments by transfer or through PayPal are not accepted.
I’m getting an error when trying to pay.
First, check with your bank for details of the transaction. If the bank confirms there is no block, contact the Russian visa center:
Can I request a refund?
No, a refund is not provided, regardless of the processing outcome.
Can I cancel my application once paid?
No. Currently, it is not possible to cancel an application after payment has been made.
3. Managing Applications
It’s been more than 4 days since I paid, and I still haven’t received a response. What should I do?
Check your personal account: your application may have been returned for correction.
If the status is “Returned for editing,” review the comments and correct what is indicated.
If the status is “In processing,” verify the date you submitted or corrected it.
Important: the day of submission or resubmission is not counted within the 4-day period.
If more than 5 calendar days have passed and you haven’t received the eVisa, contact: [email protected]
Provide your application number, nationality, and passport number.
Can I apply for another electronic visa shortly after leaving Russia?
The official regulations do not specify any waiting period to apply for a new electronic visa once you have left Russia. Many travelers have already processed a new eVisa right after leaving the country. This could change in the future, but for now, it is common practice to apply for a new visa as soon as you leave Russia.
Before applying for a new eVisa, keep in mind:
- You must have completely left Russia with your electronic visa.
- The new application must be made at least 4 calendar days before the intended entry.
- Your passport and medical insurance must still be valid.
4. Entering Russia
I’ve received my eVisa. When can I enter Russia?
You can travel at any time within the 120 days following the issuance of the visa. Your stay in Russia cannot exceed 30 days, and you must leave before those 120 days end.
How do I know if my eVisa has been approved? I want to buy tickets.
You can check the status of your application in your personal account on the official website or in the Ministry’s app.
Can I visit any city in Russia?
Yes, you can travel freely throughout the country, except in restricted areas that require special authorization according to Russian legislation (military facilities, special borders, etc.).
I’m traveling for tourism and haven’t booked a hotel yet. What should I put in the form?
Indicate the name, address, and phone number of the hotel or accommodation where you plan to stay. It is not necessary to present a reservation confirmation or other documents justifying your trip.
