The eVisa: what you need to know
- It is a single-entry visa, valid for 120 days from the day it is issued.
- You can stay up to 30 days from the day you enter. The day you arrive and the day you leave both count.
- Apply online on evisa.kdmid.ru between 86 and 4 days before you enter Russia. It is issued within 4 calendar days.
- No invitation or hotel booking is needed.
- It covers tourism, business, guest visits and scientific, cultural, social, economic or sports events. It does not cover work, study or transit.
- You must enter and leave Russia through one of the border checkpoints approved for the eVisa.
- Your passport must be machine-readable and valid for at least 6 months after the day you apply.

When a regular visa is needed instead
A regular visa is needed to stay more than 30 days, to enter Russia more than once, or to work or study there.
- Choose the visa type that matches the trip: tourist, business, private (visiting friends or family), study or work.
- Get the supporting document for that type. For a tourist visa, that is an invitation (visa support). For work or study, the employer or university in Russia arranges the invitation.
- Fill in the application form on visa.kdmid.ru, print it and sign it.
- Submit it at the Russian embassy or consulate (see below), or at the visa application centre it works with, if it has one.
