    Which document to travel with

The official list says “no visa with any type of passport, including internal ones“: the national passport, the ID card or a travel passport are all valid.

There is no passport control on the Russia–Belarus border for Belarusian and Russian citizens.

    How long you can stay

The Russian Foreign Ministry list sets no specific limit for Belarusian citizens, so the general rule of Article 5 of the Federal Law on the legal status of foreign citizens applies: a visa-free foreigner can stay up to 90 days in total per calendar year, and no more than 90 days in a row. This rule replaced the old “90 days in any 180” on 5 February 2025.

Belarusians working in Russia under an employment contract can stay for the length of the contract. A protocol signed in September 2026 would remove the 90-day limit for Belarusian citizens altogether; until it enters into force, the general rule applies. Overstaying, even by a day, puts a foreigner on the Russian register of persons under control, which restricts access to services and can lead to an entry ban.

    Migration card and registration

Belarusian citizens do not fill in a migration card, and under the 2006 Russia–Belarus agreement they are exempt from registration for 90 days from entry. For longer stays the general registration rules apply. More details: registration of foreigners in Russia.

Fingerprinting and a photo at the migration office are only required for those who come to work or stay longer than 90 days, not for a short visit.

RuID and biometrics at the border

Belarusian citizens are exempt from the RuID arrival notice and from the biometric data collection being tested at Russian border crossings.

Travelling with someone from another country

Foreign nationals who are neither Belarusian nor Russian can only cross the Russia–Belarus border by international train, by air, or on six designated roads, according to the Belarus State Border Committee. Details: how to travel to Russia via Belarus.

Russian embassy and consulates in Belarus

Belarusians don’t need them for a visit, but they are the official source for questions about entry, documents or longer stays.

    After you arrive

At the border you show your document. Step by step: arriving at a Russian airport.
