In this article, I&#8217;ll explain how to gather all of the documents you&#8217;ll need to apply for a visa from your computer in a way that is quick (less than 1 hour) and cost-effective. I also explain the additional requirements for Covid-19.<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Despite the the war in Ukraine, consulates issue visas to travel to Russia<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"388\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Visa-to-Russia-from-Usa-and-Canada-Featured-Image.jpg\" alt=\"Visa to Russia from Usa and Canada - Featured Image\" class=\"wp-image-29\" srcset=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Visa-to-Russia-from-Usa-and-Canada-Featured-Image.jpg 550w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Visa-to-Russia-from-Usa-and-Canada-Featured-Image-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"introduction\">INTRODUCTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve had to apply for tourist visas to Russia for family and friends on several different occasions. The process for obtaining a visa to Russia is an extremely bureaucratic one and thanks to this, many companies have taken advantage of the opportunity to do business related to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of internet articles explain the process for obtaining a Russian visa, but I haven&#8217;t found any that clearly explain each step of the process in detail or explain how to complete the process yourself without relying on outside help or intermediaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s for this reason that I&#8217;d like to explain in detail how a UK&nbsp;citizen can obtain a visa to travel to Russia in an easy and inexpensive way without having to contact intermediary businesses who only add to the overall price of the visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Notes: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>If you will be traveling to Russia on a <strong>trip organized by a travel agency<\/strong>, the agency will likely take care of the entire visa process and simply ask you for the necessary documents. If this is the case, the price will be significantly more than if you file for the visa yourself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This article gives a step-by-step explanation of how to obtain a visa on your own from the United Kingdom. The process is very similar in other countries:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>USA and Canada<\/strong>. INTRO QUESTIONS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before going into detail about the Russian visa application process, it&#8217;s important to answer a few questions in order to better understand the procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-1-what-is-a-visa-and-who-should-request-one\">1.1. What is a visa and who should request one?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A visa is nothing more than authorization for a citizen of a foreign country to enter, stay in, or pass through the territory of the Russian Federation. It is a document that adheres to your passport and looks something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"566\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Visa-to-Russia-Passport-Traveler-2.jpg\" alt=\"Visa to Russia Passport Traveler 2\" class=\"wp-image-33\" srcset=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Visa-to-Russia-Passport-Traveler-2.jpg 566w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Visa-to-Russia-Passport-Traveler-2-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>If you are from the United Kingdom, you will need to obtain a visa in order to travel to Russia. However, people from countries that have bilateral agreements with Russia are exempt from needing to obtain a visa. For example, those with passports from ex-USSR states like Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, etc. are allowed to enter Russian territory using ordinary passports from their respective countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-2-what-types-of-visas-exist\">1.2. What types of visas exist?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the purpose of the entry you\u2019re making, the Russian Federation issues 7 types of visas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tourist: <\/strong>This is the most common visa and as the name indicates, it is issued for stays that are for tourism purposes. They are issued for a maximum of 30 days.\n<ul>\n<li>UPDATE: Since 25 August 2021, single or double-entry tourist visa for up to 3 months or a multiple-entry tourist visa for up to 6 months can be issued on the basis of the tourist \u00abConfirmation\u00bb (which goes along with the \u00abVoucher\u00bb). The total period of stay of a foreign tourist on the territory of the Russian Federation on a multiple-entry tourist visa cannot exceed 90 days within each period of 180 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Business: <\/strong>This type is for trips to Russia that are professional in nature and have a commercial purpose or are used to do business.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Student: <\/strong>This is issued to those who are studying in the Russian Federation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Work: <\/strong>Visa that permits a person to work in Russia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Humanitarian: <\/strong>Issued for stays with for the purpose of cultural exchange, sporting events, scientific\/technological, socio-political, religious or humanitarian missions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Private Visas: <\/strong>These are issued to guests of Russian Nationals who reside within the territory of the Russian Federation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Transit: <\/strong>Used to pass through the Russian Federation in order to reach another country (this is not necessary for foreigners who have a layover in an airport given that they don\u2019t leave the international area or for those who fly over the territory without a layover).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, all visas are processed in a similar way. The only difference worth mentioning is the obtaining of the so-called <strong>letter of invitation <\/strong>that, in the case of a tourist visa, is issued by the hotel where you are staying or, in the case of a business visa, must be issued by a Russian company that has invited you to visit and in the case of a student visa, the Russian educational institution where the person will be attending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-3-where-is-the-visa-processed\">1.3. Where is the visa processed?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"option-1-consulates-or-the-russian-federation-in-the-uk\">Option 1: Consulates or the Russian Federation in the UK<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Until not long ago, you could&nbsp;have your visa processed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rusemb.org.uk\/index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embassy of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland<\/a> in London or at the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/edinburgh.mid.ru\/en_GB\/web\/edinburgh_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Edinburgh<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"option-2-russian-visa-centers\"><span id=\"Option_2_Russian_Visa_Centers\">Option 2: Russian Visa Centers<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>However, to meet the increasing demand of Russian Visas, the Embassy of the Russian Federation outsourced its Visa Application Processing to a private company (Artionis AG Services UK Ltd). Thus, at present this company manage and process Russian visas&nbsp;through the&nbsp;Russian Visa Application Center in London, Edinburgh, and Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Russian Visa Center Application Website: <a href=\"https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-image-corners\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Russia-Visa-Centre-in-UK.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Russia-Visa-Centre-in-UK-1024x644.jpg\" alt=\"Russia Visa Centre in UK\" class=\"wp-image-1648\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Russian Visa Center Application acts as an intermediary between the applicant and the consular section by receiving documents, verifying they are correct and complete, and sending them to the consular section to have them processed. However, the final decision to approve or deny a visa application still comes from the Consulate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All other websites that offer Russian visa are NOT AUTHORIZED AGENCIES but simply private companies that act as intermediaries and make the final cost of the visa a lot more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>.&nbsp;Holders of foreign diplomatic and service passports intending to visit Russia on an official business have&nbsp;to apply in person at the Embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-138\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Russia-Visa-Centre-in-London.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Russia-Visa-Centre-in-London-627x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Russia Visa Centre in London\" class=\"wp-image-1652\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Russian Visa Application Center in London<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Walk-in Service, no appointment required.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>London:<\/strong><br>Russia Visa Centre<br>15- 27 Gee Street,<br>Barbican, London<br>EC1V 3RD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Edinburgh:<\/strong><br>Russia Visa &nbsp;Centre<br>64 Albion Road (back entrance)<br>Edinburgh<br>EH7 5QZ<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Manchester:<\/strong><br>Russia Visa Application Centre<br>Suite 5, 1st Floor, Building No. 2<br>Universal Square<br>Devonshire Street North<br>Manchester<br>M12 6JH<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>There is no passport collection facility in Manchester.<\/strong>&nbsp;The processed passport will be received from the Embassy of the Russian Federation at the Russia Visa Application Centre in London and will be returned to the applicant via recorded delivery post or available for collection at&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia\/contact-us#london\" target=\"_blank\">Russia Visa Application Centre in London.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you are applying in Manchester, ensure to select&nbsp;<strong>\u2018London Visa Centre\u2019<\/strong>&nbsp;as the location when prompted while completing the online application form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/foreigners-biometric-fingerprinting-russian-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"foreigners-biometric-fingerprinting-russian\" class=\"wp-image-139\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>From 10 December 2014, it is mandatory to visit the Visa application centre in person to apply for Russian Visa, due to the new requirement to collect biometric data (fingerprinting).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, recently Russia Visa Application Centres offer to the applicants <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia\/additional-services#mobile-biometric-service\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia\/additional-services#mobile-biometric-service\">Mobile Biometric service<\/a>: a team of officers can come to your home or office to check your visa application documents, collect your fingerprints and securely deliver this information to the Embassy for the decision. Note that fee may vary and additional charge will be added for using this service depending on the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you go to the Russia Visa Application Center, <strong>you don&#8217;t need to make an appointment in advance<\/strong>. Once you arrive at the visa centre, the security guard will issue you a token. You would then be required to wait in the applicant area until your token is called. At the counter, the officer will check your documents, process your application if it is completed and issue you a receipt. You would then be able to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rv-cent.com\/tracking\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rv-cent.com\/tracking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">track your application<\/a> through the website until the time your passport is received back with a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Russian Visa Application Center offer <a href=\"https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia\/additional-services\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/russia-visacentre.com\/en\/visa\/united-kingdom\/russia\/additional-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">additional services<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Mobile biometric service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photocopy and printing facilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photo booth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>VIP premium lounge service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Concierge Visa service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pre Check Service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internet Kiosk Facilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Covid-19 testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Etc&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything is set up so that you don\u2019t have to come back on another day (and of course do business since they are additional payment services).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"option-3-private-agencies\">Option 3: Private agencies<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>One last option is to use the services of a private agency, which will be in charge of carrying out the whole process of managing the visa. The main advantage is the comfort (you give them your data and they take care of everything). The main drawback is that the price will be higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can not move in person to the visa center because it is far from your place of residence, you can apply for a visa through one of these private agencies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-4-how-much-does-it-cost-to-get-a-visa\">1.4. How much does it cost to get a visa?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost for processing a visa is divided into three quantities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The actual <strong>visa processing fee<\/strong>, called consular taxes: \u00a363 for a standard visa -single entry- (processed within 20 business days) or \u00a3125 for an expedited Visa (processed in 3 business days). Double entry visas are more expensive: \u00a3101 for a standard visa and \u00a3200 for an expedited Visa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Along with the visa fees, there is a <strong>service charge<\/strong> applicable per visa application:\n<ul>\n<li>Normal applications (Up to 20 business day\u2019s service): \u00a338.40 (inclusive of VAT)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urgent applications (Up to 3 business day\u2019s service): \u00a345.60 (inclusive of VAT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-image-corners\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Russia-Visa-Information-in-UK-Visa-Fees-Tourist-Visa.jpg\" alt=\"Russia Visa Information in UK - Visa Fees Tourist Visa\" class=\"wp-image-962\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">In addition to the cost of processing the visa, you must also add the <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">cost of the letter of invitation or visa support<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">, which is also required. The cheapest are around \u00a314-15 (later I\u2019ll explain how to get one for this price in a PDF format in a few&nbsp;minutes).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">You have the option of <strong>having your passport returned<\/strong>, once processed by the Embassy of Russian Federation, via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dxdelivery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DX Secure<\/a> at a nominal charge of \u00a313.80 to be paid at the time of submitting your application. The passport will be sent directly to your address as specified by you in a Special Delivery Envelope (SDE). <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">In summary, the total cost is:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a3101.40 for each of the 4 visas (\u00a363 in consular taxes + \u00a338.40 in service charge)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a314 for the letter of invitation for each visa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For a total of \u00a3115.40 per visa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-5-how-to-pay\">1.5. How to pay?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You have the option of paying the visa fees by cash or Credit\/Debit card (except American Express) when applying at the Visa Application Centre. Cheques are not accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-6-when-should-i-start-applying-to-get-a-visa\">1.6. When should I start applying to get a visa?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applying for a visa and gathering the necessary documentation can take some time, so I recommend beginning the process about 3 or 4 weeks ahead of time. Although, if you already have a passport and electronic copies of your documents, as I explain in this article, it is possible to get through the process in 10 days&nbsp;(or 1 or 2 days if you use the expedited process).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also note that you can apply for a visa up to 6 months before your date of travel to Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-steps-to-apply-for-a-russian-visa\">2. STEPS TO APPLY FOR A RUSSIAN VISA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When applying for a visa, you must provide the following information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The electronically completed <strong>Visa application form&nbsp;<\/strong>(you must print, sign, and attach a passport-sized photo)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Passport<\/strong> (must be the original).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Letter of invitation<\/strong> or visa support (A &#8216;Tourist voucher&#8217; and a &#8216;Tourist confirmation&#8217; document stamped and signed by authorized person. They can be obtained through your hotel or an approved travel agent who deals with trips to Russia)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Printed medical document (in English or Russian), confirming a <strong>negative PCR test for COVID-19<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Documentation in some special cases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Self-employed, company directors, working from home or unemployed applicants<\/strong> need to provide <strong>bank statements<\/strong> for the last three months which have a current balance of a minimum of \u00a3100 per day for the duration of the visit. Note that if you wish to provide online banking printouts please make sure they will be certified and stamped by your bank. Students, house-wives and retired people are not required to provide bank statements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants going for <strong>auto tourism<\/strong> should enclose the <strong>Registration Certificate of the vehicle<\/strong> they intend to travel by and covering letter mentioning the details of the journey, itinerary and names of the accompanying travellers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Next I\u2019ll explain the step-by-step process of obtaining your visa. Remember that the visa application form must be filled out with information from your letter of invitation and must clearly state the dates of your visit and which cities you will be staying in. Because of this, it\u2019s better to gather your documents and complete the form once you have all of the information you need for the visa application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-1-have-a-valid-passport\">Step 1. Have a valid passport<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/British-Passport-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"British-Passport\" class=\"wp-image-119\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>To apply for a visa, you must have a Passport which&nbsp;should be valid for a minimum of six months after visa&#8217;s expiration&nbsp;date and has at least 2 blank pages which do not need to be consecutive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that you must have an original passport as the visa is an adhesive document that you have to stick inside the pages of your passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your passport must not present&nbsp;<strong>any type of deterioration<\/strong>&nbsp;such as being torn on the cover, be stained or having broken pages. In these cases it is better to renew the passport before applying for the visa, since in the consulate they are usually very strict and they won\u2019t approve the visa if the passport is damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-2-set-your-itinerary-cities-and-hotels\">Step 2. Set your itinerary: Cities and Hotels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your visa must include your entry and exit dates meaning the first and last date that you will be in the country. This means you will need to know the exact dates of your trip before applying for your visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You do not have to buy tickets in order to get a visa<\/strong> but you should take the following into account:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>If you apply for a visa before buying your tickets, it\u2019s possible that you won\u2019t be able to find flights for the exact dates for which you applied or they may be more expensive. Remember that the earlier you book your flights the cheaper they will be.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is possible that you will purchase tickets in advance (if you\u2019ve found a great deal or good price) and then not receive your visa (although I don\u2019t know anyone who has been denied).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you know your entry and exit dates, you should outline your itinerary and plan out the cities you want to visit and the hotels or apartments where you\u2019ll be staying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>On the visa application form, you have to include the <strong>cities you are going to visit<\/strong> as well as whether you will be making multiple entries. The most common type is an entry visa but you may also want to visit Finland and then return to St. Petersburg or visit a country that borders Russia like China and Mongolia by taking the Trans-Siberian railway. You may also want to visit Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan or Georgia. If so, you need to be very clear about where you will be going and what dates you will be entering or exiting the country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is nothing wrong with asking for a visa that includes days prior to those when you will actually be visiting. Just make sure that your exit and entry dates are included within the date range that is listed on your visa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To get a letter of invitation or visa support (later I\u2019ll explain in greater detail what this is), you will need to know which hotels or apartments you will be staying in. However, once you arrive, it doesn\u2019t matter if you end up staying in a different hotel or Airbnb apartment (say you find one that\u2019s cheaper or better quality) as long as you are still staying in the city that you are visiting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To book accommodation I always use <a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/zenhotels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zenhotels<\/a>, a Russian booking platform in which you can find wide variety of accommodation and very good deals. Other good option is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.booking.com\/?aid=1142041\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Booking.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people ask me about hotels to stay in Russia. Get a letter of invitation or visa support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>letter of invitation <\/strong>(also known as the <em>visa support letter<\/em>) is the most important document but also the most controversial. The letter of invitation should not be confused for a hotel reservation. They are not the same. <strong>It is not necessary to have a hotel reservation in order to get a visa. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This document is needed to apply for a visa and must be issued by a Russian person, institution, hotel, or business who has invited you to visit them. A Russian family member, university you\u2019ll be attending, a business or a hotel where you will be staying can provide you with the letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visa support<\/strong> is the most common support received when getting<strong> a tourist visa. <\/strong>This document is issued by the hotel in which you\u2019ll be staying and is printed on an A4 page. It is divided in two separate but similar parts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Tourist Services Contract<\/strong> (tourist voucher) is the document that states that you have hired a Russian hotel service. This part will show your personal information, the cities you will be visiting, as well as the services you will receive from the hotel and the proof that you have paid for a reservation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Foreign Tourist Reception Confirmation<\/strong> (confirmation letter), as the name indicates, confirms you will use the hotel during your visit. It also includes personal information and the accommodations you\u2019ll be provided with during your stay. The visa support includes 4 things that you will need when filling out your visa application form. Ask for it directly from the HOTEL,&nbsp;<\/strong>they can either fax or email it to you. While the document should be free in theory, the hotels usually charge a fee (between \u00a3 20 and \u00a3 40). &nbsp;If you stay in two or more hotels, you will need an invitation letter from each hotel.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Please note<\/strong>: if the hotel makes you a free invitation letter you must stay at the hotel since if you cancel the reservation after obtaining the free invitation, the hotel can invalidate it and charge you a supplement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Option 2. Getting a letter of invitation on your own through an authorized RUSSIAN TOUR OPERATOR.&nbsp;<\/strong>If you simply want to do things more quickly without having to call or email each individual hotel, there are different travel agencies that can quickly provide the visa support online in 5 minutes for about \u00a3 14. Also mark in the box that you have read the introductory information. Take all of your documents to the Visa Application Center<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have of your documents, the final step is to take everything to the Visa Application Center that is nearest your place or residence (London, Edinburgh or Manchester). All applicants must to go in person to apply for the Russian Visa. However, recently Russia Visa Application Centres offer to the applicants Mobile Biometric service: a team of officers can come to your home or office to check your visa application documents, collect your fingerprints and securely deliver this information to the Embassy for the decision<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-8-after-submission\">Step 8.&nbsp;After submission<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you have applied for your visa to the Russian Federation, and waiting for your application to be processed, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rv-cent.com\/tracking\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rv-cent.com\/tracking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">track your application status here<\/a>. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR COVID-19 AND WAR IN UKRAINE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have obtained the visa and before boarding the plane, you must take into account the additional requirements for Covid-19 that must be met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><s>Every passenger must show a&nbsp;<strong>printed medical document (in English or Russian), confirming a negative PCR test for COVID-19 no older than 48 hours<\/strong>, at the check-in and then at the border of the Russian Federation. Since 4 September 2021 the 14-days isolation for those arriving to Russia is no longer required<\/s>. As of October 21, 2022, a negative Covid-19 PCR certificate is no longer required for foreigners to enter Russia. SUBSEQUENT FORMAL PROCEEDINGS AFTER OBTAINING THE VISA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have the visa and the Covid-19 documentation, you should bear in mind that there are <strong>two additional steps<\/strong> that must be done once you get to Russia: the immigration card and visa registration. The first thing is usually completed by the customs officer and the second the hotel where you will stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to always carry both the passport and the immigration card while traveling, and the accreditation of the registry in case it may be required from you on the street by the police (it is rare for them to do so, though).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-1-immigration-card\">4.1. Immigration card<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you enter the territory of the Russian Federation, you must fill out the <strong>immigration card<\/strong>, though in practice, at large airports, it is usually the immigration service which takes care of it (either digitally or manually). It is done during passport control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The immigration card is a paper which consists of two equal parts that are the size of a passport page. One of the parts is kept by the border police and the second will be delivered to you. It is important that you keep this card as they will ask it to you when you leave the country. Registration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have applied for a tourist visa, you have the obligation to <strong>register within the first 7 working days of arrival <\/strong>(excluding weekends and holidays). Before March 2011, the registration must be done within 48 hours, but the new Russian law modified this term. If you are going to stay in Russia less than 7 working days, then you do not need to register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of this registry (which comes from the communist era) is to notify immigration authorities of the place where you will stay while you are in Russia. The registration must be done in each of the cities that you are going to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to <strong>fill out another registration form<\/strong>. It\u2019s not your obligation to register, but rather the hotel where you are staying or the host of the apartment where you are staying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are staying in a hotel, when you arrive, <strong>the hotel itself will register your visa.<\/strong> They will ask you the passport with the visa and immigration card (the one you get at the border when you arrive to the country).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you will not stay in a hotel, but in a private house, <strong>then the Russian host is the one required to register his\/her guest at a police station or at the post office<\/strong>. You don\u2019t need to be present in the registry but you must provide your host a copy of the first page of the passport, the visa and the immigration card. You may be charged a small fee for this procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accreditation registration is not required to leave the country, though the immigration card is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the following screenshot you can see how this form looks.
