Whether taxi, train, or bus, each option has advantages and disadvantages. In whichever case, I will explain how you can prepare in advance and how you can reserve a taxi or buy train tickets online.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Aeroexpress-Vnukovo_airport_station-1024x768-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Aeroexpress-Vnukovo_airport_station-1024x768-1.jpg\" alt=\"Aeroexpress Moscow\" class=\"wp-image-2483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Aeroexpress-Vnukovo_airport_station-1024x768-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Aeroexpress-Vnukovo_airport_station-1024x768-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Aeroexpress-Vnukovo_airport_station-1024x768-1-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moscow airports<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Mapa-aeropuertos-de-Mosc\u00fa-233x300.jpg\" alt=\"Airports Moscow map\" class=\"wp-image-6873\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Moscow has 3 international airports:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/dme.ru\/en\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/dme.ru\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Domodedovo<\/a>&nbsp;(abbreviated as DME). 42 kilometers to the south of the city.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.svo.aero\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sheremetyevo<\/a>&nbsp;(SVO). Situated about 30 kilometers to the northeast of the city center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vnukovo.ru\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vnukovo<\/a>&nbsp;(VKO). Situated about 28 kilometers to the southeast of the center of Moscow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are basically three options for travelling from the airport to the center of the city or the reverse: taxi, train, or bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The taxi is generally the most comfortable option but it is also the most expensive (unless you are splitting it between 3 or 4 people), the train (called Aeroexpress) which is generally the fastest choice but depending on the location of your lodging it can require switching to the Metro, while the bus is the cheapest option but is best for more experienced travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Taxi<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Taxi-Mosc\u00fa-300x195.jpeg\" alt=\"Taxi in Moscow\" class=\"wp-image-6863\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In my opinion the best option for going to the center of Moscow if you go with a group of 3 or more people or if you are going with small children or if you are arriving early morning at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>APPROXIMATE DURATION OF TRIP. The duration of the trip will depend on whether it is daytime and if there is bad traffic or if you are traveling by night and with little traffic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>From Domodedovo to the center of Moscow: between 1.5 hours to 2 hours, depending on the location of your lodging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo to the center of Moscow: between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>APPROXIMATE PRICE FROM AIRPORT TO CITY CENTER. The cost depends on the taxi company, the type of car, and the distance traveled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Economy (4 passengers): 2,000-4,000 rubles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comfort (4 passengers): 4,000-8,000 rubles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advantages<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>It is the most comfortable option for reaching the center of Moscow. You are picked up at the airport and dropped off at the door of your hotel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>24 hours service. If you arrive late at night to the airport this will probably be your only option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taxi drivers generally only speak Russian, although there are some private companies that allow you to rent a taxi with a driver that speaks English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Disadvantages<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>During the day there is a lot of traffic, so this is not a good option for going from the center of the city to the airport because you risk missing your flight (in this case you should catch a taxi well in advance).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is more expensive, although for groups of 3 people or more it can be less expensive than public transport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-6856 size-medium\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Oficina-Taxis-Aeropuerto-de-Sheremetyevo-300x200.png\" alt=\"Taxi office at the Sheremetyevo Airport\" class=\"wp-image-6856\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Taxi office at the Sheremetyevo Airport<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is the option that I use to go from the airport to center of Moscow when I travel with more people, although for the return trip from the center of Moscow to the airport I do not like to use taxis due to the traffic jams that often turn up in Moscow and the risk of missing your flight (for the return trip I use the Aeroexpress train and which I discuss in the next section).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways to reserve an official taxi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Reserve a taxi when you arrive at the airport<\/strong>. You can just make a reservation when you arrive at the airport in any one of the stalls that the official taxi companies have in each of the airports\u2019 terminals.\n<ul>\n<li>In the <strong>Domodedovo airport<\/strong> the taxi service is provided by <a href=\"https:\/\/dme.ru\/en\/transport\/taxi\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/dme.ru\/en\/transport\/taxi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Domtrans<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At <strong>Sheremetyevo airport<\/strong> they recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=ru.yandex.taxi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yandex Go<\/a>. More information in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.svo.aero\/en\/directions\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.svo.aero\/en\/directions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxivnukovo24.ru\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.taxivnukovo24.ru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taxi Vnukovo 24<\/a> operates at <strong>Vnukovo airport<\/strong>. More information in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vnukovo.ru\/en\/for-passengers\/airport-directions\/taxi\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.vnukovo.ru\/en\/for-passengers\/airport-directions\/taxi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MY RECOMMENDATION<\/strong>: at any of the airports use the <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=ru.yandex.taxi\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=ru.yandex.taxi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yandex Go<\/a> application. It is very easy to sign up for this application using your mobile number. Taxi payment can be made in advance (using a Russian bank card) or in cash when taking the taxi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-image-corners\"><a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/yandex_go_taxi_app_russia.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"552\" src=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/yandex_go_taxi_app_russia-1024x552.png\" alt=\"Yandex Go - App for booking taxi in Russia\" class=\"wp-image-2512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/yandex_go_taxi_app_russia-1024x552.png 1024w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/yandex_go_taxi_app_russia-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/yandex_go_taxi_app_russia-768x414.png 768w, https:\/\/russiable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/yandex_go_taxi_app_russia.png 1322w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>IMPORTANT NOTE: try to avoid the people who \u201cassault\u201d you as soon as you get through customs with your suitcase offering taxi service even though they may have uniforms that say \u201cOfficial airport taxi\u201d. These are usually illegal taxi services and can occasionally cost you much more than the official taxis because they do not have set prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Reserve a taxi in advance<\/strong>. If you want to take care of everything before your arrival and avoid having to look for official taxis at the airport and wait in lines, you can make your reservation in advance with another taxi company, so that when you arrive at the airport you will be waiting for your taxi. Most Western taxi booking companies, due to the conflict in Ukraine, do not offer service in Russia, but there are still some companies that allow online booking, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/kiwitaxi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GetTransfer<\/a>, which allows you to pay with foreign cards and PayPal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Train: Aeroexpress<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aeroexpress-exterior.png\" alt=\"Aeroexpress - exterior\" class=\"wp-image-6864\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is an excellent option, above all else because it makes the return trip to the airport with predictable arrival times, although do keep in mind that in order to get to your lodging it is most likely to switch and board the Metro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DURATION OF TRIP:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Between Sheremetyevo and Moscow (<a href=\"http:\/\/belorussky.dzvr.ru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Belorussky<\/a> station): 35 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Between Domodedovo and Moscow (<a href=\"http:\/\/paveletsky.dzvr.ru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paveletsky<\/a> station): 45 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Between Vnukovo and Mosc\u00fa (<a href=\"http:\/\/kievsky.dzvr.ru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kievsky<\/a> station): 35 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see the route that Aeroexpress follows from each of the airports on the following map:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Aeroexpress_trains_routes_in_Moscow_region.jpg\" alt=\"Aeroexpress - Journey from airport to Moscow center\" class=\"wp-image-6866\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>As you can see, Aeroexpress ends at stations near the center of Moscow; however, if your lodging is not close to one of these stations, you will have to take the Metro (or a taxi) to get to your lodging. Aeroexpress leaves you right next to the Metro. On this map you can clearly see the connections between Aeroexpress and the Moscow Metro that will take you to the city center or the Red Square:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Conexiones-Aeroexpress-y-Metro-de-Mosc\u00fa-1010x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Connections between Aeroexpress and Moscow metro\" class=\"wp-image-6867\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>PRICE. There are different <a href=\"https:\/\/aeroexpress.ru\/en\/aero\/prices.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/aeroexpress.ru\/en\/aero\/prices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rates<\/a>. On Aeroexpress\u2019s official web page, you can buy the following types of tickets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Standard <\/strong>ticket: 500 rubles (roundtrip 950 rubles)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Business Class<\/strong>: 1,000 rubles (you get to travel in a more comfortable car and you have an assigned seat).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Round-trip <strong>family <\/strong>ticket: 1,900 rubles for two adults and two children between 7 and 14 years old.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You also have the option to buy the <a href=\"http:\/\/troika.mos.ru\/en\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/troika.mos.ru\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troika card<\/a> and recharge it for use on the Aeroexpress. It&#8217;s explained in this article:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/moscow-troika-card-public-transport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moscow\u2019s Troika Card: paying all public transport costs with a card<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advantages<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The departure and arrival times are predictable. Aeroexpress trains do not make any unscheduled stops and you can know with certainty when they will arrive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Disadvantages<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>If your lodging is far from the station where you arrive with Aeroexpress, you will have to use an additional transport method (Metro or taxi). Keep in mind that it is possible you will be tired after arriving from your flight. Moreover, if this is the first time that you have used the metro and you are not familiar with it, it might be better to take a taxi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Aeroexpress train only runs from 6:00AM until midnight, while the Metro runs from 6:00AM until 1:00AM (the trains run every hour or every half hour depending on the schedule). If you arrive very late you will not be able to use this method of transport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Aeroexpress is generally the best option to use to go from the center of Moscow to the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aeroexpress also offers express bus service between Domodedovo and Domodedovskaya metro station and between Sheremetyevo and <a href=\"https:\/\/khovrino.aeroexpress.ru\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/khovrino.aeroexpress.ru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Khovrino<\/a> metro station. The price is 300 rubles per trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can buy tickets for Aeroexpress in two ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>At the ticket stands or ticket dispensing machines <\/strong>at the stations. It is a little more expensive but this allows you to get other types of tickets that you cannot buy on the Web.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In advance of your arrival<\/strong>, through the <a href=\"https:\/\/aeroexpress.ru\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official Aeroexpress website<\/a>.&nbsp;However, you will need a <a href=\"https:\/\/russiable.com\/how-to-pay-in-russia\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1544\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Russian card<\/a>, since foreign Visa and MasterCard cards do not work due to international sanctions. The process for buying tickets online with Aeroexpress is very easy:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>. Select the day of your trip, the type of ticket and the number of tickets. Make your payment and print the tickets . Tickets have a QR code in order to be able to pass through the turnstiles at the station (you can also display the QR code on your phone without needing to print a ticket).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.&nbsp;Bus<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rusalia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Autob\u00fas-aeropuerto-Domodedovo-300x158.png\" alt=\"Bus - Domodedovo airport\" class=\"wp-image-6871\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is the cheapest transportation method but you must keep in mind that these buses only go as far as the outskirts of Moscow where the Metro lines begin. Therefore, you have to combine the bus with the Metro as well in order to arrive at your lodging. This is a method of transport for more experienced travelers only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>APPROXIMATE DURATION OF TRIP. The duration of the trip depends heavily on the amount of traffic as well as the airport:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>From Domodedovo to Metro Line 2: 30-35 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From Sheremetyevo to the \u201cRechnoy vokzal\u201d station: between 45 minutes and 90 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From Vnukovo to the \u201cYugo-Zapadnaya\u201d and \u201cTroparyovo\u201d Metro stations: 35-40 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These generally pass every 15 to 30 minutes. Some lines also run at night. You can find Express buses that are more modern and also vans commonly known as \u201cMarshrutkas\u201d and these function similarly to shared taxis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PRICES. These can fluctuate between 60 and 250 rubles depending on the route you are taking and the airport. Some tickets also include a Metro ticket.
